About this tool
Resizing changes how many pixels an image has. Making an image smaller (downscaling) is the most effective way to reduce its file size: halving the width and height leaves a quarter of the pixels. Websites rarely need images wider than 1920 pixels, and thumbnails often need only 400–800.
This tool scales in steps for large reductions and uses the browser's high-quality smoothing, which avoids the jagged or blurry results of one-step scaling. Enlarging an image cannot add real detail. It will look softer, so the tool allows enlargement only up to four times the original size.
Good to know
- One image at a time, up to 30 MB and 50 megapixels.
- Maximum output size is 20,000 pixels per side and four times the original.
- Metadata such as camera details and location is not copied to the resized image.
