About this tool

This tool uses the Web Speech API built into your browser. By default it lists only on-device voices, which turn text into speech without sending it anywhere. Which voices and languages you get depends on your operating system: Windows, macOS, iOS and Android include voices for many languages, including Arabic, and you can add more in your system's language or accessibility settings.

Some browsers also offer higher-quality online voices. They send your text to the browser maker's speech service, so they are hidden unless you tick "Include online voices".

Good to know

  • Audio cannot be downloaded as a file (browsers do not allow recording speech output).
  • Available voices differ between devices.
  • Very long texts are read sentence by sentence.

Frequently asked questions

Can it read Arabic?

Yes, if your device has an Arabic voice installed. Most recent Windows, macOS, iOS and Android versions include one or let you add it.

Can I download the audio as MP3?

No. Browsers play speech directly and do not allow the audio to be saved.

Is my text sent anywhere?

Not with on-device voices (the default). Online voices, if you enable them, send text to the browser maker’s service.
