    About this tool

Google cuts titles and descriptions by pixel width, not by number of characters. A title full of wide letters (W, M) is cut sooner than one with narrow letters (i, l). This tool measures your text in the font Google uses, against approximate limits: about 600 px for desktop titles and about 920 px for desktop descriptions. These limits are observed, not published by Google, and they change.

Google often rewrites titles and chooses its own snippet when it thinks another part of your page answers the search better. A preview shows what you control, not a guarantee. Good titles describe the page accurately, put the most important words first, and include your brand name at the end.

    Good to know

    • Pixel limits are approximations based on observed results.
    • Search results also show dates, ratings and site links depending on the page. These are not simulated.
    • Google may rewrite titles and descriptions.

    Frequently asked questions

How long should a title tag be?

Aim for up to about 600 pixels, which is typically 50–60 characters. Put the important words first in case it is shortened.

How long should a meta description be?

Around 120–155 characters usually shows in full on desktop; mobile shows less. Write it as a clear summary that makes people want to click.

Does the meta description affect rankings?

Google has said it is not a ranking factor, but a clear description can increase how many searchers click your result.
