About this tool

Conversions use exact international definitions: 1 inch = 2.54 cm, 1 pound = 0.45359237 kg, 1 mile = 1,609.344 m, 1 US gallon = 3.785411784 litres. Temperature uses °F = °C × 9/5 + 32 and K = °C + 273.15.

For data, KB/MB/GB are decimal (1 MB = 1,000,000 bytes, as storage makers use), while KiB/MiB/GiB are binary (1 MiB = 1,048,576 bytes, as many operating systems display). That difference is why a "1 TB" drive shows about 931 GB in Windows. "Month" and "year" in time conversions are average Gregorian lengths.

Good to know

  • US customary volumes (cup, pint, gallon) are used except "UK gal".
  • Results show up to 6 decimal places.

Frequently asked questions

How many centimetres are in an inch?

Exactly 2.54 centimetres.

How do I convert Celsius to Fahrenheit?

Multiply by 9/5 and add 32. 30 °C is 86 °F.

Why does my 1 TB drive show 931 GB?

The drive uses decimal units (10¹² bytes) and the operating system binary units (2⁴⁰ bytes per TiB). Compare TB with TiB in the data converter.
