About this tool
Code 128 encodes letters, numbers and symbols compactly and is the usual choice for shipping labels, asset tags and internal stock codes. EAN-13 (used worldwide) and UPC-A (North America) are the retail product barcodes found on packaging; their last digit is a check digit calculated from the others, which this tool adds or verifies.
Important: to sell products in shops you need officially registered numbers. In the UAE and most countries these come from your national GS1 organisation. Generating an EAN or UPC image does not register the number, and using a number that belongs to another company causes scanning errors and listing problems with retailers and marketplaces.
For reliable scanning, print dark bars on a light background, keep the white margins (quiet zones) around the code, and test with a scanner or phone before printing in bulk. The encoder is checked against an independent open-source library in our automated tests.
